Talk Shit or Be The Shit
An Article on The truth behind Homelessness and The resources that are involved in helping. This is a True Story on how being in the streets for two years has let me see how people are treated, the under funded resources or lack of. A list of resources that I have found to be helpful will be added along with some of the ones I was handed in the beginning of my Journey.

Oh The Treatment, Oh the Resources!
This story starts almost two years ago when the selfish act of another person landed myself out in the cold for almost two years. I have been through Six States, and back again. I started in Ohio To Kentucky, To Texas, To Atlanta, To Florida in two cities (Sebring and Sarasota),and then back To Kentucky, Ohio and Las Vegas. Now bringing me right back to Ohio and Kentucky again.
In a short amount of time I have been passed around like a YOYO. This is where I draw the damn line. I have learned that in Ohio there are a couple of Women's Shelters, but to get into them is almost comical. They are so UnderFunded it is not even funny. Women that have been victims of Human trafficking, Domestic Violence or Homelessness situations really do not have anywhere to go. The only glimmer of hope is when you have to play the role of possibly having a problem that is so trival in regards to addiction from a prescription, one glass of wine, and weed unless you are actually on harder drugs to keep a roof over your head . When in fact you do not have this problem is a shame.
The only place with a chance of saving you is a (Sober Living Home). I myself personally, felt bad for being there when my problem started as Domestic Violence. The number of places to even help Women like myself are very far in between.. Meaning rare or none at all. They do not have room and you are lucky if there is even one in your city.
When this had all went down with myself I had to run off to Florida just to be able to keep a roof over my head. I had went to a Womens Shelter in a Little town called Sebring Florida. They did not turn me away, and they have the flexible hours as far as returning to work anywhere. I also stayed at the Salvation Army in Sarasota which is flexible when you are working. They do have case managers that help you as well. They have a Program there that allows you to be on what they call Street Crew. This is actually a great Program. It allows you to be able to actually keep a Roof over your head, find a job, and it keeps the streets in the area clean.
In fact when coming back to the place I called home (Ohio) I have a problem getting anywhere, and had to roll the dice on being in the streets. I have been unable to keep a roof over my head everytime I came back. The areas have great Church Programs, Bus Cards, Groceries, Clothing and Dinners. One issue I found out is there is nowhere to get a shower unless you have the bus fare to get back downtown. Which who has that everyday being homeless right. The city has only a few Women Shelters. There are Mens Shelters, but not a damn thing for women. That really pisses me off.
The chance of women getting off the street is portraying yourself with an addiction problem to keep a roof over your head. There are Shelters further out but they are running into the same problems.
You can apply for the Snap Program, and Medical Card. When push comes to shove and you start working odds are with your income you will lose it if you do not meet their income guidelines.
If you have a mental health problem you may be able to get the Disablity and be approved after two or three trys.
This will give you enough to keep a roof over your head, but what happens when you can only work so many hours and then they take it away because you had to increase your hours to make the ends meet.
Then we have the problem of the Shelters that are not even mentioned in the list of Resources I had recieved. This creates a problem.
The couple I have seen are trying to expand and make more room. They are just as deserving of the funding that is coming into the state as well as the known Resources out there. I believe that the funding needs to be increased, and honestly an Audit of some of these places needs to take place. Insuring that they are in fact doing their job or just sweeping it under the rug. It's almost comical that in almost two years the most help I have received are from smaller Shelters, Church Programs and Community Out Reach.
Now let's get to the way Women are truly treated in the street. If you are out there alone Men approach you wanting to FUCK or they will not help you without the mentioning of this. I have been sexually harrassed. I have had my Ass grabbed, I have had dudes try to kiss me when I was Not interested just to take a shower at their house because I did not have one for two or three days.
I am not saying this is all of the men, because I did meet some good men. I have met some good women out there also.
All of that shit in the streets honestly made me just not want to deal with their asses (Men) for awhile. This is after coming out of a domestic situation that I was walking out of anyway.
I am truly fed up with what I have learned about the way shit goes out there in the street in regard to this. This is not my first rodeo being in a situation as far as having nowhere to stay. I an truly fed up with some of the behavior of these Men. I am so fed up to the point where I do not honestly give a shit if I date for awhile after this shit.
I have chose to do things the way I have because I have other things I was doing in the middle of this. In order to do them I had to be in a place that I could give myself peace in the middle of caos.
I want to be able to work when I need to, I have been trying to piece myself back together since the beginning of this. I personally do shit my way.
If I can't get the help I need ,and these resources are not available when needed them ever I had to find a different way. I am not saying by any means to do things the way I did.
Let's just hope that for the sake of not only wWomen, but for Men and Children who are going through these situations that this shit changes. Do not look down at someone being homeless ever because let me tell you one damn thing it could happen to you. Then you will feel like complete shit because of the way you acted toward them when nobody helps you, and Karma bites you in that smug ass..........Help these people, be a good person.
